嘉善县建于明朝宣德五年（1430年），地处浙江省东北部，是浙江省唯一同时接壤上海市和江苏省的县。境内一马平川，属典型的江南水乡。历史上因“民风纯朴、地嘉人善”，故定名为嘉善，素有“鱼米之乡、丝绸之府、文化之邦”之称，是国务院批准的第一批沿海开放县之一。嘉善县域面积507平方公里，实有人口约86.8万。嘉善是习近平总书记曾经的基层联系点，是总书记一直牵挂的地方。总书记先后4次到嘉善调研和指导，20次作出重要批示指示。嘉善是长三角一体化、长江经济带等重大战略实施的重要节点城市，承载着全国唯一的县域高质量发展示范点和长三角生态绿色一体化发展示范区两大国家战略。全县经济发展态势强劲，“十四五”期间，嘉善县地区生产总值从655.8亿元迈上千亿元台阶，年均增速达到6.8%，列嘉兴市第1，领跑一体化示范区。2025年GDP增长5.8%，总量突破千亿元。

Jiashan County was established in the fifth year of the Xuande reign of the Ming Dynasty (1430). Located in the northeastern part of Zhejiang Province, it is the only county in the province that borders both Shanghai Municipality and Jiangsu Province. The terrain within the county is completely flat, making it a typical water town in the Jiangnan region. Historically, it was named Jiashan due to its “simple and honest folk customs, excellent land, and kind people.” It has long been known as a “land of fish and rice, a home of silk, and a state of culture.” Furthermore, it is one of the first coastal open counties approved by the State Council. Jiashan County covers an area of 507 square kilometers and has an actual population of approximately 868,000. Jiashan was once a grassroots contact point personally designated by President Xi Jinping and remains a place of special concern to him. President Xi visited Jiashan four times for inspection and guidance and has issued important instructions on more than twenty occasions. Jiashan serves as an important strategic node for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta and the Yangtze River Economic Belt. It is home to two major national strategies: China’s only County-Level High-Quality Development Demonstration Site and the Yangtze River Delta Eco-Green Integrated Development Demonstration Zone.The county has maintained strong economic momentum. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Jiashan’s GDP increased from RMB 65.58 billion to over RMB 100 billion, with an average annual growth rate of 6.8%, ranking first in Jiaxing and leading the Yangtze River Delta Demonstration Zone. In 2025, Jiashan’s GDP grew by 5.8%, exceeding RMB 100billion.
