南通是中国首批14个沿海对外开放城市之一，被誉为“近代第一城”，素有“江海明珠”之称。南通经济技术开发区（简称“南通开发区”）是1984年成立的中国首批14个国家级开发区之一，位于南通市区南部，是对接上海、融入苏南的门户，兼具长三角区域一体化发展、一带一路、长江经济带等多重国家战略叠加优势，在2023年国家级经开区综合排名中列第21位。南通开发区规划面积184平方公里，人口34万，人均GDP达26.33万元。经过40年的发展，南通开发区先后获评跨国公司眼中最具投资价值开发区前十强、江苏省利用外资转型发展示范区、长江经济带国家级转型升级示范开发区、国家级绿色工业园区、减污降碳协同创新试点产业园区。

[Overview]

Nantong is one of China's first 14 coastal open cities, known as “the first city in modern China” and “the Pearl of the Yangtze River and the Yellow Sea”. Located to the south of Nantong urban area, Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area (hereinafter referred to as NETDA) is one of China's first 14 national development areas, which is the gateway to connecting with Shanghai and southern regions of Jiangsu. NETDA benefits from multiple national strategies such as the Integrated Development of Yangtze River Delta, the Belt and Road Initiative, and the Yangtze River Economic Belt, ranking 21st among 230 national economic development areas in 2023. NETDA covers an area of 184 square kilometers with a population of 340,000 and a per capita GDP of 263,300 yuan. After 40 years’ development, NETDA has been awarded the titles of Top Ten Development Areas Most Valued by Multinational Companies, Demonstration Area for Utilizing Foreign Investment for Transformation and Development in Jiangsu Province, National Transformation and Upgrading Demonstration Development Area of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, National Green Industrial Park, and Collaborative Innovation Pilot Industrial Park for Pollution Mitigation and Carbon Emission Reduction.

Besides the 60-square-kilometer industrial land, NETDA has been approved of another 15 square kilometers for the construction of New Era Future Industrial Zone, which consists of  European-American Industrial Park, China-Japan(Nantong) Industrial Cooperation Demonstration Park, Specialized-Refined- Differential-Innovative Industrial Park, and New Industrial Park. [Nantong Free Trade Zone]

Nantong Free Trade Zone(hereinafter referred to as Nantong FTZ) is located within NETDA, established in 2013 with an area of 4.61 square kilometers.
